The band is a rock/indie style band that was formed in 1990 in a pub in Manchester.  The band still retains the original members that formed the group and is made up of lead singer Guy Garvey, guitarist Mark Potter, and keyboardist.  They have been playing for 12 years and have reached critical acclaim during the course of their career.  They’ve had a long career and during the past 12 years, have released 4 studio albums and 50 singles that have reached top charts in the UK.  The band is known for their candid lyrics and has received numerous prizes including the 2008 Mercury Music prize for their fourth hit album “The Seldome Seen Kid.”  The band is named after a UK television mini series The Singing Detective on BBC TV, because one of the characters Philip Marlow in the show says that “elbow” is the most sensuous word to say in the English language.
